Pearl Care

Welcome to our Pearl Care Guide.

Pearls are timeless and elegant gemstones that require special care to maintain their luster and beauty for generations to come. Here are some essential tips to help you preserve the quality of your pearls:

1. Avoid Contact with Chemicals: Pearls are sensitive to chemicals found in perfume, hairspray, cosmetics, and household cleaners. Always apply these products before putting on your pearls to prevent damage.

2. Keep Away from Direct Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause pearls to fade or lose their luster. Store your pearls in a soft pouch or jewelry box away from sunlight when not in use.

3. Protect from Scratches: Pearls are relatively soft compared to other gemstones, so they can be easily scratched. Store your pearls separately from other jewelry items to prevent scratches.

4. Clean with Mild Soap and Water: Pearls are the only organic gem and as such, are more delicate than other gemstones used in jewelry. Never use ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners or even the softest of brushes to clean your pearls. To safely clean your pearls, simply bathe them in water and wipe them dry with a lint-free cloth. Avoid using harsh cleaners or abrasive materials that can damage the surface of the pearls.

5. Immersion in Water: While pearls can withstand contact with water, prolonged immersion can weaken the silk thread that may hold them together. Remove your pearls before showering, swimming, or engaging in water-related activities.

6. Re-string Regularly: If your pearls are strung on silk or other thread and if you wear your pearl jewelry frequently, it's essential to have them re-strung periodically. Silk thread can weaken over time, increasing the risk of breakage and loss of pearls.

7. Handle with Care: When handling your pearls, be gentle and avoid pulling or tugging on the strands. Excessive force can cause the silk thread to stretch or break.

8. Store Properly: Store your pearls in a soft pouch or jewelry box with a separate compartment to prevent them from rubbing against other jewelry pieces. Pearls contain a fair amount of water. Storing them in a dry place (like a box placed in a safe or in an air conditioned compartment) will eventually cause them to lose their natural moisture and luster. Also, pearls should also be kept away from hot and dry environments. One of the best ways to keep your pearls looking beautiful is simply to wear them, as they will naturally absorb moisture from the air and from your skin.

By following these simple care instructions, you can enjoy your pearls for years to come, preserving their natural beauty and elegance for future generations to admire.
